Kinshoji Temple

Kinshoji Temple

Once upon a time, there was a clumsy thunder kid.

He was beating the drum and thundering.

He was so excited that he dropped his drumsticks.

And then, he made it rain with a large watering can.

He made the rain and wind stronger.

But, he was so excited that he dropped the watering can.

Moreover,  he fell through a gap in the clouds in the effort of catching it.

At that very moment, a huge thunderbolt struck Kuwabara village in Sanda.
People were frightened and hid in their mosquito net.

After the storm, a monk at Kinsho-ji Temple looked around the grounds.
He could hear a tiny voice from somewhere.

To  his surprise, a  thunder kid had fallen into the well.

The monk put a lid with a big stone on it.

The kid called for help frightened in darkness.
He cried out for help.

The monk said to him to stay there because he was so mischvous.
The thunder kid said, “I will do whatever you say, so help me.

The monk said, “Do you swear never to let lightning strike Kuwabara village again?”
The thunder kid said, “I swear.”

The monk  saved him.
He thanked the monk and went back to the cloud.

Dong-dong!
The kid’s mother said, “If you hit the drum so hard, the people in the village will tremble.”
The kid’s father said, “You must thank the monk and hit the drum to pay respect for him “

Thereafter,  people of Kuwabara say, “Kuwabara Kuwabara” for wishing no thunder to ever strike them.
